Throughout the year at CSI, we had to use the design-thinking process to make our ideas for our projects better. In the case of the robot project, I will explain you the steps of what I did accordingly.
Empathy- For the empathy phase, I did a google search of robots, and previously to this, I had an idea in my head, but during my search, I saw that my idea had already been taken. So, I came up with the cute idea based on a video game that I had been recently playing. As well as that, it was also inspired by a robot created by Boston Dynamics, that looks similar to a dog. Design- The robot I had designed was made for entertainment purposes. It acts sort of like a dog, so a use of my robot is to keep lonely people and the elderly company. It is also good with kids, due to it's playful nature. It is playful and cute, which makes me want this robot even more. Ideate- I had only done one sketch of my robot, and in my opinion, that robot had matched perfectly what I had in mind in my head. However, the day afterwards, I had added knee pads to my robot, to give it a more durable feel. Feedback- All of the peer feedback I received was positive. They said I shouldn't change anything. Prototype- My final product was what everyone saw. The robot was not practical to build in real life, so it will remain a pdf for the rest of eternity.

In my opinion, the trade show went extremely well, for my first trade show. There weren't really any problems with the game. The game was easy enough that you didn't really need to know anything about the Odyssey to win. I mean, it certainly helped, but it could be easily won. One of the adults who played our game, said they liked it because it helped her re-learn all the Greek mythology in the Odyssey. After her comment, I realized that she was right, the game was very educational. As feedback goes, most of everyone who played our game, said they liked our game. There was only one person who gave negative feedback about our game, but that was because his wife made him play it. To be honest, I was surprised that our game did that well. At times, members in our group, (including me) were very distracted. However, I do believe that sometimes you need to take a break from work to relax and think about your next step. So yes, to bring it back to home plate, our game did extremely well at the trade show.
In solidworks, we created our game pieces, which included a wine bottle, a piece of cheese, a dog, and a boot. Not just limited to the game pieces, we also designed our gameboard in solidworks, as well as the spaces for the pieces to land on, (the game board was not 3D printed). As far as illustrator goes, the entire card, (including the logo) was done in illustrator. In addition, some monsters were made in illustrator, but we decided not to include them in our game. I feel that the color choice was very interesting, because it matches the description of colors in the Odyssey itself, as well as mirrors the artworks that were created based on the Odyssey. We used a variety of colors, from a blue green, to a dark blue, to a dark green. In my opinion, the most visually appealing part of our game was the cards, because all the bright colors made it really stand out against the dark blue and green of the game board. We used the design thinking process heavily in our game design. First off, we had played some games to think about how we wanted to make our game. Next, we all created a rough sketch of our game board design idea. Then, we voted on the best design, and started to work. We had made several prototypes of the logo in illustrator, as well as created several prototype monster designs. Because of the Seniors, we were able to test our game before the trade show, so we could change any problems that we had with our game. And to know what was wrong with our game, we needed the feedback from the Seniors. So, as you can see, Group # 23. Sailing For Home This semester, I improved a lot. I was able to improve many things, including the following.
This semester, I was extremely happy to improve the skills that i had learned a long time ago. I was able to re-learn how to make things look 3-d, by using shadows and ellipses. I was also able to touch up on shading, as it had been a few years since I did it last. Another major skill that I had improved on was painting. I have never really been too great of a painter,( unless if it's watercolor paint). The small details make it extremely difficult to get it precise, and it usually ends up looking bad. However, i was able to use smaller brushes, and therefore, was able to make the painting look more precise. However, it's still not perfect. Another area which you can clearly see that I improved on was the shading exercises. If you look at the second exercise and the cone on the third, you can see great improvement. This project was a success because I took more time on it than a lot more of the projects, and turned it in later than I would've liked to. Another way I feel like I improved was by overcoming obstacles. And by far one of the biggest obstacles was on the Op art assignment. So, I was sick the day it was assigned, and I didn't know it even existed until the Wednesday, (or Thursday) after I came back. Well, with one day that I had spent working on something else in class wasted, I had to do it all in a day. So, I had did it, and then after sketching it out, I realized that you had to do the project with Sharpies. So, I had to end up using the family set of Sharpies, because I had left my nice set of sharpies at School. So, I start doing it, and then I realize the only Sharpie that we had was one of the extra-fine tipped ones. So, to make it look good, I had to color all the red parts in with the red Sharpie. The problem with that was it had created little tiny white spaces in the red parts. So, i just gave up and decided to color in the white bits with a red color pencil, and then go over the color pencil bits with my red Sharpie once I got back to school. And then, at school, I realized that all of my Sharpies are extra-fine tipped. So, I panicked all during math class that day. And then, once I got to design class, I found out that we were getting five extra minutes to work on it. Needless to say, that was one of the biggest obstacles I had ever overcome. Now, after reading this, you can see some of the photos of the works talked about in this post in the Portfolio tab. That way, you can really see the improvement. The first two weeks of C.S.I was very easy. Homework is almost Non-existent. In Design class, I made a prototype of a product, a website, and some drawings.
